Shore fishing. The long, shallow coastline of Nea Mesangala and the neighboring beaches is well suited for shore-based angling. The Thermaikos Gulf is home to healthy populations of European seabass and gilthead seabream — two of the most prized catches in the Mediterranean — along with bogue, mullet, and squid. Early mornings and late evenings are the best times, when the water is calm and the fish are feeding close to shore. The sandy bottom and gentle gradient make it accessible even for beginners.
Boat fishing. For those who want to head further out, the Thermaikos Gulf offers excellent boat fishing opportunities. Local fishermen have worked these waters for centuries, and you can arrange boat trips from nearby harbors along the Pieria coast. The gulf's relatively shallow depth (rarely exceeding 100 meters) creates rich feeding grounds, and depending on the season you can target everything from sea bream and bass to mackerel, sardines, and even bluefish further offshore.
The Platamonas shrimp. The nearby waters around Platamonas are renowned for their prized local shrimp — a regional delicacy so celebrated that Michelin-starred chefs source them specifically from here. Grilled simply with lemon and olive oil, they're unforgettable.
